• Family Planning - We provide confidential services to all women of childbearing age. Our services include counseling, pregnancy testing, and birth control options. We also provide new mom and baby visits and breastfeeding help.
• Community Health - Foot clinics, flu clinics, community health fairs, and school screenings.
• Immunizations - We provide immunizations to both adults and children.
• Health Education - We provide many useful health tips and information.
• WIC - We provided support for this Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children. Providing nutritious foods to supplement diets, information on healthy eating and referrals for health care.
• Tobacco Use Prevention - We provide support and help point interesed community members in the right direction to QUIT their tobacco use. Quitting reduces disease, disability, and death related to tobacco use.
• Youth Alliance - We manage and support the implementation of culturally appropriate community-based prevention strategies to reduce alcohol and marijuana use, youth binge drinking, adult age (18-65+) binge drinking and 30 day use. The community-based prevention focuses on education and health and wellness.
• Emergency Preparedness - We work hand in hand with our local DES (Disaster Emergency Services) office to update our current emergency plans. Striving to provided community education, support for emergencies, and guidelines to help prepare the community and familes in case of an emergency, including those with special needs.

Chouteau County Board of Health

The local board of health's role and/or authority can be policy making, regulatory, administrative or advisory. The specific roles and responsibilities are determined by the state, county, and municipal laws and regulations; they may vary among jurisdictions. The local board of health is the link between the public health department, elected officials, and citizens. The board oversees and advises the health department.

The board meets quarterly, every fourth Wednesday in January, April, July, and October via zoom. Please contact our office for a link to the meeting.

What does the Community Coalition do?

• Mission:
  To promote healthy living among residents of Chouteau County through community-wide collaboration and communication.
  
• Vision:
  The Chouteau County Community Coalition is a united effort to improve the quality of life and health of residents of Chouteau County.
  
• Goals:
  1. Focus on a community-wide network and effective communication that will improve access to existing resources in Chouteau County.
  2. Periodically assess the health status and needs of individuals living in Chouteau County.
  3. Identify and prioritize shared objectives that will improve the health of Chouteau County residents, including long-term systems level change and short-term high impact projects.
  4. Establish local partnerships and community problem solving capacity that will address the prioritized objectives.

Public Health is a part of Chouteau Counties Local Emergency Planning Committee – which is comprised of representatives from law enforcement, fire, ambulances, hospitals, search & rescue, government, industry, and the public. These meetings are open to the public and we welcome public attendance and imput. Please join us for our next meeting on November 12, 2018 at 3 pm in the basement of Missouri River Medical Center (MRMC).

• Chouteau County Cancer Support Group - They are here for you...because we all know someone who has been affected by cancer...our hope is to help.
• Backpack Buddies/County Schools - We are fortunate to have a partnership with our County Schools to provide the weekend food supplemental program, Backpack Buddies. This program is for food insecure homes with children who are in K-6th grades. You can sign up through your local participating school.
• Violence Prevention - They provided information for all aspects of domestic violence, child abuse, sexual assualt, elder abuse, stalking, and many other areas and topics relating to different areas of abuse. The Hi-line's help for aboused spouses Crisis Line 1-800-219-7366. If you are currently in an abusive relationship, please CLICK HERE FIRST and read the information. This is "very important".
• Fort Benton Lions Club - They provided free eyeglasses (406) 622-4204), free hearing aids (406) 622-4204, and diabetes medication ((406) 622-5489 ask for Chris Halko) for low income residents. They also offer free house nuber signs ((406) 622-3373 to request or repair) to aid first responders, and bicycle safety checks, minor repairs/adjustments (406) 622-4202. You can also email them at ftblions@gmail.com to request services. The Lions Club has partnered with teh Chouteau County Health Department to provided Free Vision Screenings for ages 6 monthhs to 15 years old. Please call or email the Lions Club to set up a screening.
